Rickie Fowler will win a major this season. We said it… this guys is absolutely on fire to start the 2018 season. He has three straight top 4 finishes and has played his last three tournaments at 50 under par.
The face of Cobra golf has reworked his bag including the new King F8 driver, fairway wood, and baffler. This driver was the darling of late 2017, early 2018, and has still tested favorably to the new TaylorMade and Rogue drivers.
Driver: Cobra King F8+ at 8 degrees
Shaft: Aldila 2KXV NV Blue 70x
We certainly are not ambassador’s of the Cobra brand, but the King F8 is every bit the driver as what we have seen come from the big brands this past season. It’s long, forgiving, and looks amazing. What’s more? It’s only $399, fully decked out with a custom shaft and grip, and the Cobra team supports their customers and warranties their products as well as any brand going.
Fairway Wood: Cobra F8+ at 13 degrees
Shaft: Aldila Synergy 70X
Cobra F8+ Baffler at 14.5 degrees
Shaft: Aldila Synergy 70X
The baffler may very well be the club that put Cobra on the map, and this is the best baffler we have ever hit. The F8 family in general far exceeded all of our expectations. For the second straight season, Fowler is all in with the Aldila shafts. We currently have a love affair going with TPT shafts, but most of our readers know that Aldila was the shaft that we pushed hard last season.
Irons: Cobra King Forged MB
Shafts: KBS C-Taper S+ Golf Club Shaft, 125gm, Steel, Stiff
Not only does Fowler carry the King irons, but he also carries the new Cobra King utility… which you can’t get your hands on yet. You can, however, get your hands on the 4-PW that are in his bag (link below). Keep in mind these are true players irons… You are going to get plenty of distance and control out of them, but they aren’t quite as forgiving as some of the irons we have reviewed recently.
The shafts on Rickie Fowler’s irons are KBS C-Taper S+, and of course are steel and stiff. At the time of writing this article, a set of 4-PW of these shafts ran around $240, but that price is constantly changing.
Wedges: Cobra King V-Grind (52, 56 and 60 degrees)
Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400
The trusty rusty is officially gone form Rickie’s bag, but his short game is as good as ever, which happens to be the best in the world right now. It seems likely that close to none of our readers have Cobra wedges in the bag right now, but if the best short game player in the world does, maybe we should take a second look at them?
Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Prototype
Another top 10 player with a Scotty Cameron in the bag. Smooth, soft, great feel and sound, and the new Newport 2 putters have a sleek Silver Mist finish similar to Fowler’s. They are a bit pricey, but are amongst the best putters on the planet.
Ball: Titleist Pro V1x
This is arguably my favorite ball, it’s not the softest ball by any means, but if you are looking for a soft ball that doesn’t affect distance, it’s the best choice on the market today. At $4 per ball, these will cost you more than 2 gallons of gas per ball, so they certainly aren’t meant for hackers, but if you play down the middle of the course, they will improve your game by at least a stroke.
