Matthew Fitzpatrick WITB for 2018

Matthew Fitzpatrick WITB for 2017 Season?

The most recent addition to our what’s in the bag series for 2017 is the young English phenom Matthew Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick found success early in his golf career, winning the 2013 U.S. Amateur and picking up his first win as a professional at the 2015 British Masters. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it… Fitzpatrick hits one of the most dated Ping bags on tour. Aside from the M2 driver, you could likely recreate this bag on Global Golf for under $500.

Driver: TaylorMade M2 at 10.5°

Shaft: Graphite Design Tour AD-MT 6X
What is left to be said about the M2 driver? It remains the most popular driver on tour, and is even in the bags of pros like Fitzpatrick and Woods that hit another brand’s irons and wedges. The AD-MT shaft is one of the more underrated shafts on the market, so smooth, softer tip while still surprisingly accurate.

3 Wood: Ping G25 at 15° 7 Wood: Ping G at 20.5°

Shaft: Aldila Tour Blue 75TX
The Ping G 7 wood has 3 degrees more loft than the 5 wood and is perhaps the most forgiving fairway wood on the market. The G series fairway woods in general are extremely easy to hit. They are about as high launch and low spin as you will find, have a low-back center of gravity, and as a result are extremely forgiving.

Irons: Ping Rapture – 2 Iron | Ping i25 (3-5) | Ping S55 (5-PW)

Shaft: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100
Those of you that follow our WITB series know that I bag this exact soft of blended set of irons. I personally have a Apex 2 iron, Srixon z545 3-5, and Srixon z945 6-PW. For me, it’s naive to think that a set like doesn’t make sense for the majority of above average golfers. Of the three irons Fitzpatrick bags, the S55’s are my personal favorite. They look phenomenal, feel great, and are currently also in the bags of Bubba Watson, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Hunter Mahan. If you have hit the Ping i series (really 15 or 25), these feel very similar, but have significantly better turf interaction and take a much better divot. It’s easy to see why Fitzpatrick has stuck with this combo for a while.

Wedges: Titleist Vokey SM5 at 54-10 with S Grind and 58-07 with S Grind

Shaft: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100
While we weren’t blown away with the latest from Vokey (the SM6 wedges were the first to not get a 5-star rating from our staff), the Vokey SM5’s are still the best set of wedges we have ever hit. Most of the pros in our WITB series that bag these wedges seem to hit the S Grind, but having played both here in Florida, my personal preference is the M Grind.

Putter: Yes! Tracy II

Yes! We all remember these awesome putters… They were so consistentm with a great feel and great roll… The brand was bought by Adams, so it seems likely we have seen the last of the Yes! putters, at least for the foreseeable future.
