Jon Rahm WITB for 2017 PGA Season

Jon Rahm What’s In the Bag for 2017?

The latest addition to our WITB series for the 2017 PGA season is the superstar young Spaniard, Jon Rahm. You could make the argument that, aside form Dustin Johnson, Rahm has been the hottest golfer on the planet through the early portion of this season. He is currently 4th in the FedEx standings and 12th in the world rankings. Rahm has finished in the top 16 in 9 of his 11 tour starts this season, that includes a win at Farmers and three straight top 5 finishes in March.

Driver: New TaylorMade M2 at 10.5°

Shaft: Aldila Tour Green 75TX
Jon Rahm has been one of the better drivers of the golf ball on tour this season, thanks in part to the new technology behind the improved TaylorMade M2 driver. The M2 produces a flat, low-spin ball flight that has clearly become a favorite amongst players on tour. The Aldila Tour Green shaft is a free shaft upgrade offered on new M2 orders through TaylorMade. In addition to free shaft upgrades, TaylorMade allows customers free tipping adjustments.

3 and 5 Wood: TaylorMade M1 at 15° and 19°

Shaft: Aldila Tour Green 75TX
The TaylorMade M1 3 wood and 5 wood remain one of our top rated sets of fairway woods. Both offer the customizability that we love in the M1 driver, as well as industry leading forgiveness and length. Like the M2 driver, these woods produce tremendous speed, and long, low spin shots.

Irons: TaylorMade RSi TP UDI (4) | TaylorMade P750 Tour Proto (5-PW)

Shaft: True Temper Project X 6.5
The TaylorMade P750 and P770 are the latest iron offerings from TaylorMade. Marketed as a pure player iron, these are forged clubs that are manufactured in a specific process to create a compact club head that provides superior feedback and playability. See the video above for a cool video on how these club heads are forged.

Wedges: TaylorMade Milled Grind (52 SB-09, 56 SB-12, 60 SB-10)

Shaft: True Temper Project X 6.5
These are interesting wedges, and I must start this by saying that I personally loved hitting them. The reason I would describe them as interesting is that they clearly were developed for the TaylorMade tour players (TM doesn’t sell loads of wedges). While they won’t make their way into my bag, they performed loads better than I expected, produced plenty of spin and were certainly playable. Rahm hits the SB version (standard bounce) I tested the LB set, but am not good enough to get away with playing them on the local courses here in Florida. If you do consider trying these wedges, I would suggest starting with a HB set, which features a full-width grind.

Putter: TaylorMade Spider Tour Red

Grip: SuperStroke 1.0P
Obviously the type of putter you hit is a totally subjective matter of opinion, but this clearly a combination that has seen Rahm’s putting improve tremendously this season. The SuperStroke 1.0P grip is our current editor’s choice for putter grips.
