Emiliano Grillo WITB for 2016

Emiliano Grillo What’s In the Bag

Emiliano Grillo is one of the most talented golfers to come out of South America in quite a while. The 24-year old Argentinian turned pro back in 2011 and has already chalked up a couple of impressive wins, including victory in the 2015 Frys.com Open.

Grillo had an absolute breakout 2016 season. He didn’t win any events, but made the cut at all four Majors and was rewarded for his fine play with the 2016 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award. He got a T54 placing at the U.S. Open, but did much better in the other majors, finishing T17 at the Masters, T13 at the PGA Championship and T12 at The Open.

We certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see this young player continue to improve in the years to come, and fans might not have to wait too long to see him challenging for the biggest trophies. In this article, we’ll take a quick look through Grillo’s 2016 bag and show you the clubs he’s been using.

Driver: Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 (8.5 degrees)

Shaft: Aldila RIP Alpha 60X (45.5 inches)
callaway-big-bertha-grilloGrillo goes with Callaway’s Big Bertha Alpha 815 as his driver of choice. Designed to minimize spin and offer the biggest hits and fastest ball speeds, this is a particularly powerful driver that can work wonders in the hands of well-skilled players. Compared to previous Callway drivers the Alpha 815 features a unique forged crown to cut down on weight and lower the spin on the ball and provide additional forgiveness.

Also fitted with R MOTO technology, this driver has an incredibly stable, thin face that really provides a solid smash at the point of impact. It really feels great to hit the ball with this club, and it’s definitely strong enough to help you get more from your drives. Not to mention the Alpha 815 also happens to be fully customizable, with different weight ports that let you adjust fade and draw. The OptiFit hosel also allows you to configure your loft and lie angle with ease.

3 Wood: Callaway XR

Shaft: Fujikura Speeder Evolution II Tour Spec 757X
A really aesthetically pleasing club, the XR 16 3-wood features a relatively large head shape for added forgiveness. This club is ideally suited for both pros and amateurs, featuring Callaway’s highest MOI ever seen in a fairway wood, as well as offering a very low CG for big launches. The crown is exceptionally light to ensure that you get good results, regardless of your swing style or speed. The XR 16 is a really easy-to-use club and we can recommend it to anyone.

Hybrid: Callaway Apex (20 degrees)

Shaft: True Temper Project X HZRDUS Black 105X (6.5)
callaway-apex-hybridGrillo carries a Callaway Apex hybrid in his bag and has used it to great effect throughout 2016. With a Forged Face Cup for super fast ball speeds, the Apex delivers the sort of performance you hope to get from a top quality hybrid. Aimed towards reasonably skilled players, this club features a relatively long blade length and resembles a regular iron in many ways. It offers excellent distances and very consistent ball flight, while the Internal Standing Wave allows the CG to be repositioned to suit your swing.

Irons: Callaway Apex MB (3-PW)

Shaft: True Temper Project X Flighted 6.5
emiliano-grillo-witb-2016-2017-ironsThe Callaway Apex Muscleback irons, made from 1025 carbon steel, offer Tour-proven performance a really satisfying feel. Pros love using these clubs, so we aren’t surprised to see them in Grillo’s bag. The quad-forged design of the MB set is truly inspiring, while little features like the optimized sole camber help to increase playability and reliability.

Wedges: Callaway Mack Daddy 2 (50-12 S Grind, 54-11 T Grind, 60-09 T Grind)

Shaft: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400
emiliano-grillo-witb-wedgesWith compact heads and delicately forged grooves to offer extremely high levels of spin, the Mack Daddy 2 wedges offer some really pleasing results. Each club feels very different from the others, making the whole set highly useful. If you need some reliable wedges to get you out of a bad spot, this is a fine set to own.

Putter: Odyssdey Metal X Milled #1

Grip: SuperStroke Flatso 2.0 (Red/White)
A very successful putter on the PGA Tour, the Metal X Milled #1 features highly consistent roll with crossbar technologies and full adjustability. It’s got a great design and is very effective out on the green.
