Branden Grace WITB for 2017

Branden Grace What’s in the Bag

Since his breakthrough season back in 2012, Branden Grace has only gotten better. In 2015, he managed to finish 3rd at the PGA Championship, as well as sealing a T4 finish at the U.S. Open. In 2016, he continued to win over fans with some brilliant performances, including his first ever PGA Tour win at the RBC Heritage back in April. He also managed to defend his Commercial Bank Qatar Masters title on the European Tour.

Quite simply, Grace is a golfer on the rise and cemented his status as a major contender with another T4 finish at this year’s PGA Championship, along with a T5 placing at the 2016 U.S. Open. The South African is playing very well, so it’s only natural that we wanted to take a look at the clubs he’s been using. Looking forward to 2017, let’s take a look at what was in the bag for Grace at some of the early 2017 PGA events.

Driver: Callaway XR 16 Sub Zero at 8.5 degrees

Shaft: Fujikura Six Tour Spec 60X

Also used by Phil Mickelson, the Callaway XR 16 Sub Zero is an incredible driver aimed towards skilled players. Featuring an extremely low center of gravity due to its Carbon Triax Crown, this club has been painstakingly designed to minimize spin and help drives go further than ever before. If you have a fast swing and struggle with excessive spin on your drives, this could be an excellent club to use. Grace has had some good results with the XR 16 Sub Zero, which also comes with a pair of interchangeable weights in the head, allowing you to find the right balance and the best results.

3 Wood: Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 816 at 16 degrees

Shaft: Fujikura Speeder 757X Evolution

Just like the Sub Zero driver, this club has been forged with better players in mind. As a highly skilled golfer, Grace is able to get the best out of this 3-wood, but even amateur players can witness big improvements by giving it a try. With 8-way adjustability and interchangeable weights, the Alpha 816 offers a lot of flexibility and can appeal to players with varying styles of swing.

Utility: Callaway Apex UT (3 iron)

Shaft: True Temper Project X 6.5
callaway-utility-branden-grace-witbGrace chooses the Apex UT for his 3-iron needs and has clearly enjoyed using this club throughout the 2016 season. Forged with Carpenter 455 Forged Face Cup technology for serious speeds, while also being fitted out with smart sole weighting to offer big launches and high forgiveness levels, the Apex UT irons offer the right balance of power and performance.

Irons: Callaway X Forged ’13 (4-PW)

Shaft: True Temper Project X 6.5
branden-grace-witb-ironsDesigned with pros like Grace in mind, Callway’s X Forged irons feature incredible technology to guarantee the most impressive results every time. Created with Triple Net Forging for additional precision, these irons allow good players to place the ball exactly where they want it. Adding to the accuracy levels are the club’s V Grooves, specifically designed and forged to offer total control to the player.

Wedges: Callaway Mack Daddy 2 Tour Grind (52-10, 56-11, 60-9)

Shaft: True Temper Project X 6.5
branden-grace-wedgesAn attractive, award-winning set of wedges, Callaway’s Mack Daddy 2 Tour Grind range comes with relatively large grooves for extra control and a good amount of spin. The roughness of the face is much higher on these clubs than on many other wedges to guarantee that extra bit of precision at the moment of impact.

Putter: Odyssey Versa V-Line

branden-grace-witb-putterFinishing off Grace’s bag is the Odyssey Versa V-Line putter. With a mallet shape and a high MOI rating, this putter offers satisfying feedback and a comfortable feel to the player. The head features the classic Fusion RX Inset, carefully prepared with the Metal-X roll pattern to get the ball gliding smoothly over the green. As a final touch, the Big-T alignment system lets you line up your putts perfectly.
