Bumpy greens, bad weather, delayed rounds, transportation hassles, Peter Jacobsen has heard it all in the past four decades. But when the topics come up, 1995 winner of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am neither mentions the names of the complainers nor rants in harsh terms.Instead, Jacobsen pauses and then steadily switches into ambassador mode. As the second-oldest professional in the field (he’s nine months younger than Craig Stadler), Jacobsen, 53, doesn’t understand why some of the world’s top professional skip the tournament.

Five seasons ago, Jeff Gove joined a small but growing corps of pro golfers who prefer the comforts of home while traveling. So, with rare except, Gove and his wife Heather and their two small children travel tournament to tournament in the family motorhome.
Gove's wife wasn't keen on the idea, with her only reference, according to the nomadic, golfer, "Grandma's Mini-Winne." (Winnebago). But once the couple investigated new models, however, it wasn't long before they owned a 45-foot Travel Supreme.

Donnie Hammond has been a professional golfer for nearly 30 years. But during the 2006 Thanksgiving holiday, Hammond opened a new component of his golfing career.
With fellow PGA TOUR and Champions TOUR players Frank Lickliter II, Corey Pavin, Howard Twitty and Jerry Kelly, Hammond traveled as a goodwill ambassador to Iraq to visit with soldiers.
For eight days, the group visited nearly a dozen bases, including one day, Kelly's 40th birthday, when the players were treated to three different birthday cakes.

It's long way from Zandvoort to Pebble Beach, but intercontinental travel is nothing new to Bernhard Langer.
Several thousand miles, a few oceans and handful of time zones? No worries. Langer's been traveling around the globe seeking low scores for more than two decades.
Langer, the two-time Master winner, will do this past week when he made his Champions Tour debut in the Wal-Mart First Tee Open.
Langer, who turned age 50 on August 27, left the PGA Tour circuit to compete with his son Stefan last week in the KLM Dutch Open. He flew from the Netherlands to compete in the fourth annual event at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Del Monte Golf Course.
While a handful of former PGA Tour standouts, including Mark O'Meara, Nick Price, Wayne Grady, Kenny Knox, Donnie Hammond and Bill Rogers made their First Tee Open debuts, Langer was the only player among the field of 78 who made his Champions Tour debut.

Hale Irwin is still working his game, looking for new ways to win 40 years into his professional career.
New clubs and motivation from the teenagers participating in the Wal-Mart First Tee Open provided Irwin's impetus Saturday at Del Monte Golf Course.
Capitalizing on nine birdies, Irwin carded a 7-under 65 and was later joined by Des Smyth (64) and Gil Morgan (65) in a three-way, two-stroke lead at the fourth annual event.
